Mutilated cat corpses found in Canada

KELOWNA, British Columbia, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Police in British Columbia said the mutilated bodies of three cats have been found in two neighborhoods during the past three weeks.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sgt. Ann Morrison said two of the carcasses were found in Kelowna's Glenmore neighborhood and the third was discovered in the city's Rutland area, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.

"It appears that it is human-caused," Morrison said. "Some of the marks on (the cats) would indicate that (the wounds) were intentional."

"Basically it appears that the animals would have been tortured and left dead in the middle of the road," she said.

Morrison said one of the cats was found with its head and paws removed.

The local Responsible Animal Care Society is offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to the conviction of the perpetrator.

Investigators said six cats were found killed in Rutland in 2004 and no arrests were made in the ensuing probe.

"Sometimes people like this will take a break. They'll come back to it," said Sinikka Crosland, president of the Responsible Animal Care Society.
