Australia police hunt for missing girl

SYDNEY, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Investigators looking into the disappearance of a 6-year-old Sydney girl say her immediate family are considered suspects.

In the week since the mother of Kiesha Abrahams reported her missing from her Mount Druitt home, police say they've spent that time exhaustively searching for her while interviewing the girl's mother, stepfather and father, who have all denied involvement in her disappearance, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported Sunday.

Police Inspector Russell Oxford says everyone is being considered a suspect at this stage.

The girl's mother and stepfather have moved into a nearby hotel.

"I wonder if Kiesha happens to walk home, and who's there to wait for her?" Oxford said.

Police have now suspended the search to go over information they've gathered but said they'll start up again if new information comes to light, the ABC said.

They have also been stopping drivers on Woodstock Avenue near where Kiesha lived attempting to find out more about her last known movements.

Oxford says officials are not giving up yet but he's not optimistic of finding her alive.

"I still entertain a hope but you've got to be realistic," he said. "After all this time if she's a young 6-year-old girl by herself, where has she gone and has she perished somewhere?"
