Suspect in royal break-in arrested

WINDSOR, England, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- At least one suspect has been arrested in an attempt to break into Prince Andrew's house on the grounds of Windsor Castle, British police said Thursday.

The suspect, a 43-year-old man from Colnbrook, Berkshire, was arrested at his home, The Sun reported.

Andrew lives in Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park with his daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie. His ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, has a separate flat on the propery.

Police said none of the royals was home Monday when a group of men in a sport utility vehicle crashed through the gate. Guards spotted them on security cameras, but the raiders got away.

Andrew and his daughters were cruising with the queen off Scotland, while the duchess was in Spain.

A spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police said the suspect was being held at the Slough Police Station.

Police sources told the Sun the group stopped to visit one of the gardens in Windsor Great Park.

"They could have been burglars who didn't realize they were breaking into a royal home. Or they could have been terrorists bent on mayhem," one police source said. "It looked like a well-planned operation because they were disguised and knew how to escape through back roads."
