Top 3 U.K. unions back Ed Miliband

LONDON, July 24 (UPI) -- The Unite union's political committee has endorsed Ed Miliband as leader of the U.K. Labor Party.

The next step is for Unite's executive to endorse Miliband -- most likely on Monday -- followed by a full vote of the union's 1 million members, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.

Unite's move gives Miliband the support of the country's three largest unions; Unison and the GMB have already endorsed him to succeed Gordon Brown as Labor leader.

Miliband, the younger brother of former Foreign Secretary David Miliband, has been a member of Parliament since 2005 and a Cabinet member from 2007 to 2010, including a stint as secretary of state for energy and climate change.
