KABUL, Afghanistan, July 21 (UPI) -- Taliban militants beheaded six Afghan police officers during an attack on several buildings in northern Baghlan province, officials said Wednesday.
NATO and provincial sources said the militants overran a police checkpoint, killing the six officers, CNN reported. They then attacked a school, clinic and the district governor's office in Dahanah-e Ghori.
Eight police officers were at the checkpoint, Baghlan governor Munshi Abdul Majid said. The skirmish lasted 2 hours before the beheadings took place.
The fate of the two other officers was not reported.
The incident occurred Tuesday, the same day participants at an international donors conference in Kabul agreed that Afghan forces should take over security for the troubled nation by 2014, CNN reported.
"This incident once again demonstrates the brutal, barbaric and senseless acts committed by the Taliban," Col. Rafael Torres, an International Security Assistance Force spokesman, said. "We remain committed to serving alongside our Afghan partners to improve security and development for all Afghans."
Also Wednesday, another international coalition forces member died in a bombing in southern Afghanistan, the ISAF said. Details about the incident were not revealed.
