TEHRAN, June 8 (UPI) -- The leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Iran's naval forces are ready to escort ships trying to breach the Israeli blockade of Gaza.

"Iran's naval forces are ready to escort the peace flotilla to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities," Ali Shirazi said.

Shirazi made his comments about a week after Israeli commandos boarded a ship headed for Gaza, resulting in a confrontation that left nine people dead, Press TV reported Sunday.

Shirazi said if Khamenei issued a decree, naval forces would escort the ships.
