Winnipeg mom allegedly stabbed sons

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, June 5 (UPI) -- A Canadian woman faces attempted murder charges for allegedly stabbing her two sons in their Winnipeg apartment, police say.

The boys, a 4-month-old baby and a 9-year-old, were in stable condition in a hospital Friday, the Winnipeg Sun reported. Police did not release their names or their mother's.

The mother, 35, also allegedly stabbed her sister, who was visiting her at the time of the attack Thursday. Investigators said the sister saved the boys' lives. She was treated for stab wounds and released.

Constable Jason Michalyshen, a police spokesman, said the motive for the attack remains unclear. He called a report the woman suffered from post-partum depression "speculation at this point."

The mother was to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
