More human remains found in British river

LONDON, May 30 (UPI) -- British police investigating the killings of three prostitutes say an underwater search team has found more human remains in a West Yorkshire river.

The body parts were found 200 yards from where the partial remains of Suzanne Blamires, 36, were found earlier in the week, The Sunday Times of London reported.

Stephen Griffiths, 40, who is studying for a doctorate in criminology, was charged Friday with the murder of Blamires and two other prostitutes, Shelley Armitage and Susan Rushworth.

In his court appearance, authorities said, Griffiths called himself "the crossbow cannibal."

Police say since Griffiths' arrest they've been searching the riverbed and more than 100 sites within a half-mile of his flat for the bodies of Armitage and Rushworth.

A police spokesman said the newly discovered remains would need to be forensically examined.

"At this stage it is too early to speculate who the remains belong to," the spokesman said.
