Driver guilty in armored car theft

PARIS, May 12 (UPI) -- A French armored car driver who stole $15 million has been sentenced to three years in prison and says he denies any knowledge of an unrecovered $3.2 million.

Toni Musulin, 39, admitted in a Lyon court to driving his armored car away after a pickup at a branch of the Banque de France in November 2009, ABC News reported Wednesday.

French police quickly recovered about $11.6 million in a van in a garage rented by Musulin. He was arrested 11 days after the robbery and said he doesn't know what happened to the missing millions, ABC said.

A judge fined Musulin the equivalent of $57,000 and handed down a 3-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors, who had been seeking a 5-year sentence, said they would file an appeal.

"For me, the case is not over," Lyon prosecutor Marc Desert said. "For the justice system, the case is not over. I can assure you that Mr. Musulin will not be able to enjoy in peace the 2.5 million euros (almost $3.2 million) he has or he thinks he has put in a safe place somewhere in Eastern Europe."

Musulin has family ties in Eastern Europe, ABC said.
