Two bombs derail Russian train

MAKHACHKALA, Russia, April 4 (UPI) -- Two bombs detonated on railroad tracks in a troubled Russian republic Sunday, derailing a freight train, authorities said.

No casualties were reported in the explosion, which occurred about 3:40 a.m. Moscow time near the Inchkhe station in Dagestan's Karabudakhkentsky district in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, RIA Novosti reported.

The Federal Security Service said the locomotive and eight train cars left the tracks near the Inchkke station close to the capital Makhachkala with four overturning.

"The power of the explosive that went off under the locomotive was 5 kilogram (11 pounds) in TNT equivalent," a Federal Security Service spokesman said. "Some 5-6 meters (16-20 feet) away from the explosion site, a second bomb (a trap) with the force of 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) in TNT equivalent went off."

The attack follows two suicide bombings in Dagestan last week that killed 12 people and injured 29 others.

"The first results of the investigation into the terrorist act that

occurred on the night of April 3-4 have showed that this explosion was

the continuation of the terrorist attack by North Caucasus militants

launched on March 29," RIA Novosti quoted a security officer as saying.
