Anti-tank mines found by Bulgarian river

SOFIA, Bulgaria, March 9 (UPI) -- Bulgarian bomb disposal crews worked Tuesday to defuse seven powerful anti-tank mines found strewn beside a river by a police officer, officials said.

The large, Russian-made mines were located Monday near a dump by a vacationing border police officer, Bulgarian National Television reported.

Military inventory records suggest they came from the arsenal of a military base in nearby Momchilgrad in southern Bulgaria, although there was no record of them being dumped, the report said.

Investigators said the mines appeared to have been thrown from a truck, the Sofia Echo reported.
