Princess Aiko scared at school

TOKYO, March 5 (UPI) -- Princess Aiko of Japan stayed home after being scared by rough behavior by boys at her primary school, an imperial official said Friday.

Issei Nomura, grand master of Crown Prince Naruhito's household, said the 8-year-old princess suffered from anxiety and stomach problems after an incident at Gakushuin Primary School, where she is in the second grade, Kyodo News Service reported. Nomura said the princess left early Tuesday and has not returned to school.

Motomasa Higashisono, a senior director of the Gakushuin School Cor., which operates a broad range of schools, held his own news conference. He said the princess was frightened by a boy's behavior Tuesday but that nothing was directed at her.

A boy "dashed out of a classroom" as Aiko was going by, he said.

Aiko is the only child of the crown prince and Crown Princess Masako. Because current Japanese law bars women from inheriting the throne, the line of succession goes through her father's younger brother and his son.
