French Rail apologizes for Romanian poster

TOULOUSE, France, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- France's national railroad has apologized for a poster warning travelers to be suspicious of Romanians and to report their behavior.

The French Rue89.com news site said the poster was spotted on a train Feb. 1 by a man who photographed it and sent it in after verifying it wasn't a joke.

"In the last weeks many concerns occurred involving Romanians," the French National Railway Society poster said.

"There have been many luggage thefts. We ask you to be very vigilant. Actually, everything Romanians do should be reported to the FNRS security service," the poster said, offering telephone numbers to call.

A rail spokesman said it was a case of "unfortunate wording" and all the posters had been taken down and the matter was being investigated, Romania's Hotnews.ro site said.

"The FNRS regional leadership expressed its regret for this incident and mentioned that this does not represent the society's opinion," the spokesman said.
