Montreal site of 2 more firebombings

MONTREAL, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Montreal continues to be plagued by firebombings, with a Molotov cocktail thrown in a building Wednesday morning, police said.

Police said witnesses saw a white man throw a Molotov cocktail through the window of a basement apartment in the city's Pointe-aux-Trembles district about 10 a.m., the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters.

Police said the incident did not appear to be related to another Molotov cocktail attack at a Saint Michel cafe 12 hours earlier. In that case, three men robbed the business, struck an employee on the head and poured fuel around the cafe. They tossed two Molotov cocktails before fleeing in a car driven by a fourth man, but the fuel failed to ignite, the CBC said.

Investigators said that attack may have been linked to a string of 14 similar cafe incidents since last November that police think may indicate an ongoing a crime turf war.
