The Guapo Lindo company bus was heading from Arequipa to Velilla with 60 people on board.

Lt. Edilberto Quentipa of the Espinar fire department said there were several possible reasons for the crash.

"It could have been a problem with the bus or because it rained last night. Besides, the road is in a bad state," he said.

Cusco is a tourist destination in southern Peru, about 350 miles southeast of Lima and 200 miles west of the Bolivian border, CNN noted.
