Investigators said the killers arrived at the family home in the southern state of Tabasco in three vehicles shortly after midnight. Irma Cordova was killed by a single shot to the head.

The attackers left the scene quickly after the shootings.

Angulo Cordova was buried Monday. He died Dec. 16 in a shootout between drug traffickers and the military that also killed suspected drug kingpin Arturo Beltran Leyva and six of his underlings.

The killings appeared to be intended to warn members of the military they are risking not only their own lives but those of their families if they take on the drug lords, authorities said. President Felipe Calderon called the killings "cowardly."
