India test fires Dhanush missile

BHUBANESHWAR, India, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- India Sunday successfully test-fired a single-stage missile capable of carrying conventional and nuclear warheads, naval officials said.

The Dhanush missile, with a range of 217 miles, was fired from a naval ship off the Orissa coast, Press Trust of India reported.

The Dhanush is the naval version of India's surface-to-surface Prithvi missile, defense officials said.

The Dhanush, launched with liquid propellent, was developed by India's Defense Research and Development Organization and tested Sunday by a team of scientists and naval officers, Press Trust reported.
