Attorney general's maid wants trial

LONDON, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A former household employee for British Attorney General Patricia Scotland was charged Friday with fraud and immigration offenses.

The case could be a major embarrassment for Scotland, who has the title Baroness Scotland of Asthal, because Loloahi Tapui wants her day in court, The Daily Telegraph reported. Tapui's media adviser, Max Clifford, said she plans to plead innocent to possession of a fake passport and fraud by false representation.

"They would want Baroness Scotland called as a witness," he added.

Tapui, a citizen of Tonga, is also charged with overstaying her visa and says there are mitigating circumstances.

Scotland has already been fined for failing to keep copies of documents involving Tapui's employment. She says Tapui showed her a fake passport when she was hired, but Tapui says she was not asked to produce one.

The attorney general fired Tapui when questions were raised about her immigration status.
