Ex-Srpska president set for prison release

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Sweden says the former president of the Republic of Srpska will be released from prison Oct. 27 after serving time for war crimes in Bosnia.

Biljana Plavsic, 79, was granted parole by the Hague Tribunal after serving two-thirds of her sentence for genocide and crimes against humanity stemming from the 1991-1992 persecution of Muslims and Croats in Bosnia.

Tanjug, the Telegraphic Agency of New Yugoslavia, said the announcement was made by Swedish officials Thursday.

Plavsic was sentenced to 11 years in 2002.
