BEIJING, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Visiting Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin says his country and China plan to widen bilateral energy cooperation significantly.
In an interview with China's official Xinhua news agency, Putin, who arrived Monday, said the two countries have signed a 20-year oil supply agreement and are completing more than 1,240 miles of crude oil pipeline. Putin said the two countries also are looking to set up a refinery in China.
"Russia and China are very active in nuclear energy cooperation," such as the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant, the Russian leader was quoted as saying.
The Tianwan plant is located in Lianyungang city in China's eastern Jiangsu Province.
Putin said Russian coal supply to China is increasing and praised China's equipment and technology in coal processing.
Besides energy, the two countries also used the Putin visit to sign agreements in several other sectors, including export of Russian natural gas; a memorandum of understanding on high-speed rail; and a deepening of trade on machinery and electronic products, Xinhua reported.
The two countries agreed to notify each other about ballistic missiles and the launch of carrier rockets, the report said.
The countries also would cooperate in promoting the establishment of a new international financial order and improve representation of the developing countries and emerging economies.
