TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Negotiators for ousted Honduran President Jose Manuel Zelaya and his successor met in Tegucigalpa to discuss how to confront the crisis, officials said.

Wednesday's session between negotiators for Zelaya and Roberto Micheletti, were the first held since August to resolve Honduras's tense political situation, CNN reported Thursday. Zelaya was deposed and exiled in June. He sneaked back into Honduras in September, taking refuge inside the Brazilian embassy in the capital, creating a new standoff between his supporters and security forces.

The talks didn't produce any major announcement, CNN said.

Zelaya demanded to be reinstated as president while Micheletti accused Zelaya of violating the Honduran constitution and said he would be arrested if he leaves the embassy grounds.

Micheletti addressed the Organization of American States delegation in a televised meeting Wednesday, saying Zelaya's ouster was not a coup but constitutionally permissible, adding that upcoming presidential elections would help resolve the impasse, CNN said.

Victor Meza, representing Zelaya, said the ousted president's desire going into the talks was advancing a negotiated, but unsigned, agreement. The document was proposed during talks in July mediated by Costa Rican President Oscar Arias.
