Americans marked the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on Wednesday with memorials and commemoration ceremonies in New York City, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania, where hijacked planes crashed. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the worst-ever terrorist attack on U.S. soil.
