John McCain, a Vietnam veteran who spent seven years as a prisoner of war then went on to serve for decades in Congress, died August 25, 2018, in Arizona. The senator had been diagnosed with brain cancer a year before. He was 81. McCain was one of the best-liked politicians of his lifetime.
