Protests broke out in cities across the United States and Europe after a white police officer in Minneapolis was recorded kneeling on the neck of George Floyd, an unarmed African-American man. Floyd died and the officer has been charged in the May 25, 2020 encounter. George Floyd was laid to rest on June 9, 2020 in his hometown, Houston. The movement is demanding justice in other police brutality cases, as well as widespread changes in policing.
