U.S. forward Abby Wambach became the leading goal scorer in the history of international women's soccer during a game against South Korea on Thursday night, CBSSports.com reported.

Wambach, who won FIFA Women's World Player of the Year in 2012, broke Mia Hamm's previous record of 158 international goals when she scored four times during Thursday night's game in Harrison, N.Y.

The record-setting goal occurred before the end of the first half, when the 33-year-old New York native scored off a corner kick from teammate Megan Rapinoe.

Hamm, now 41, had nothing but praise for her successor:

The United States beat South Korea 5-0.
