The news comes a day after Pelosi fell while attending an official event in Luxembourg.

Pelosi was hospitalized but her staff did not initially disclose the nature of the injury.

The 20-term congresswoman and current Speaker Emerita was taken by medevac to the U.S. military's Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.

The installation is a level II trauma center and is the largest overseas U.S. hospital. It is located near Ramstein Air Base, which contains the largest American community outside of the United States.

It wasn't immediately clear if Pelosi underwent the surgery in Germany, or in Luxembourg's Hospital Kirchberg where she was initially taken for assessment.

The congresswoman was part of a U.S. congressional delegation that traveled to Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the World War II Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest.

Approximately 19,000 American military members died during the campaign, which marked the last major German offensive on the Western Front during World War II.

Pelosi's staff did not elaborate on the exact nature of the fall.
