Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Murder suspect Kevin Nicholas Kuintzle is back in custody following a 24-hour manhunt, the Idaho Department of Corrections announced Friday night.

The IDC at 9:15 p.m. MST on Friday announced Pocatello (Idaho) police and Idaho State Police located and arrested Kuintzle, 33, without incident.

"We would like to thank our law enforcement partners across Idaho who helped in the search and apprehension of Mr. Kuintzle," the IDC said. "We are also appreciative of Mendocino County law enforcement agencies for their assistance."

The IDC earlier on Friday announced Kuintzle had walked away from the St. Anthony Work Camp in Fremont County sometime after 8 p.m. Thursday.

He was seen in Idaho Falls at noon on Friday and might have been involved in a carjacking attempt and firearm theft in the city on Friday afternoon, the Idaho Falls Police Department told ABC News.

The Corrections Department did not say why the murder suspect was being held in a minimum-security facility.

Kuintzle is charged with first-degree murder in Jerome County in the shooting death of an 84-year-old man inside the man's home in September 2023. He also is accused of burglary and destruction of evidence in that case and is slated to go on trial in 2025.

Kuintzle has prior convictions for grand theft in Ada County and operating a vehicle without the owner's permission in Canyon County.

He was eligible for parole for his prior convictions in April 2020 and would have satisfied his sentence in 2030, according to the IDC.
