Stephen Miller to be named Donald Trump's deputy chief of staff

Nov. 11 (UPI) -- President-elect Donald Trump on Monday named longtime immigration adviser Stephen Miller as his incoming deputy chief of staff for policy.

CNN was the first to report the news, which was later confirmed on X by incoming vice president JD Vance.

"This is another fantastic pick by the president. Congrats Stephen M," Vance wrote Monday morning.

Miller served as a senior adviser to the president during Trump's first administration.

The 39-year-old served as both director of speechwriting and as a senior adviser to the president during the first Trump administration.

Miller's representatives have not commented publicly on the new role.

The California native and far-right hardliner has spearheaded Trump's immigration policies in the past, including the 2018 "zero tolerance" policy that saw the practice of separating children from their families at the border following an executive order.

He is said to be behind Trump's promise to begin a mass deportation of illegal immigrants once he takes office in January.

Last week, Gov. Maura Healey, D-Mass., said state officials would not assist with deportations if the Trump administration sought help for the process.
