Nov. 8 (UPI) -- More than 500,000 space heaters from GoveeLife and GoveeSmart Electric are being recalled because of safety issues, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The space heaters, which were sold on Amazon, run the possibility of overheating and becoming a fire and burn hazard. Officials said 512,000 of the heaters have been sold in the United States and another 48,600 in Canada.

"Testing determined the smart electric space heaters do not comply with the voluntary industry safety standard, UL 1278, posing an overheating and fire risk from wireless control features," the CPSC said in a statement.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled electric space heaters and contact the brands for a refund."

The commissioner said customers should unplug and cut the power cord and send a picture of it along with a copy of the manufacturer's label and SN Code to GoveeLife or Govee to the link https://recall.goveelife.com/heater-recall to get a refund.

Customers without an original order number will receive refunds from $31.80 to $106.63, the commission said.

"For customers who do have the original order number, they will receive a full refund of the purchase price," the commission said. "Consumers can find the order number in their purchase records on online sales channels."
