Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A person who previously worked at the U.S. State Department as a diplomatic security officer was arrested Tuesday in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Kevin Alstrup -- who authorities say spent 28 minutes inside the building -- was located by the FBI, identified by his supervisor, arrested and now faces four misdemeanor charges.
According to the FBI, what role Alstrup played inside the federal buildings is not fully clear other than he was "familiar with providing security and protection for high-ranking government officials or sensitive locations, like embassies," authorities said in the statement.
Google location data showed that a device associated with Alstrup's email address was on U.S. Capitol grounds or within the U.S. Capitol building, itself, at about 3 p.m. on the day of the attack, according to the special agent with the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force who investigated Alstrup.
Records by Meta allegedly indicate that Alstrup had posted two Instagram videos to his account that "were captured live by a digital device in his possession while he was on the U.S. Capitol grounds on January 6, 2021."
The FBI said Alstrup was seen taking photos as events were unfolding after the attackers disrupted the electoral college count for President Joe Biden's 2020 election victory.
More than 1,200 other people who were at the Capitol that day have been charged in the riot.
