Police find no link between California serial killer and Chicago murders

Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Stockton, Calif., police Friday confirmed they no longer believe serial killings in California are connected to two 2018 murders in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood.

"We did our due diligence reaching out to Chicago PD based off the videos we have seen of their suspect. At this time though, we do not have anything linking the two investigations," Stockton Police Department Officer Joseph Silva said.

Stockton police are offering a $125,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of their serial killer suspect.

Police in both cities were looking into whether the Stockton serial killer suspect is also responsible for two Chicago murders. The Stockton serial killer has murdered six people and injured a seventh.

When CBS Sacramento compared the surveillance videos from Chicago and California it found striking similarities between the suspects. Their walking gait was very similar, both wore black and were masked. The suspect in Chicago was dubbed "The Duck Walk Killer."

Douglas Watts, 73, and Eliyahu Moscowitz were killed separately in Rogers Park in 2018 within a few days of each other. They were shot in the head from behind, the same method used by the Stockton killer.

Chicago Police said ballistics tests showed both Rogers Park victims were shot by the same gun.

According to ABC 7 in Chicago, Stockton police said all of the California victims were ambushed and none were robbed. And none of the incidents were gang-related or connected to drugs.
