May 20 (UPI) -- The victim of a deadly shooting this week at a Murfreesboro, Tenn., college has been identified, and a 17-year-old suspect has been taken into custody, police say.

Hasani Brewer, 18, was shot and killed shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday as around 450 people left a Riverdale High School graduation ceremony hosted at Middle Tennessee State University's Murphy Center, according to authorities.

Brewer, who was known to family and friends as Sunny Gant, and another victim were found after suffering gunshot wounds near the campus's tennis courts Wednesday in Murfreesboro, located 35 miles southeast of downtown Nashville.

The other person who was shot was taken to the hospital and was in "critical but stable condition" as of Thursday, WKRN News 2 in Nashville reported.

By Thursday morning, local police said they had identified a person of interest. A juvenile suspect was taken into custody that afternoon by law enforcement authorities in Clarksville, Tenn., about an hour and a half northwest of Murfreesboro.

Murfreesboro police secured a juvenile petition for a first-degree murder charge.

Authorities say it appears the two victims got into an argument and fight that wound up on the tennis courts, where the 17-year-old suspected shooter pulled out a gun and fired shots.

Police say all three of the individuals knew each other.
