May 13 (UPI) -- Phoenix Mercury basketball player Brittney Griner will remain detained pretrial in Russia for another 30 days following her appearance in court, her lawyer said Friday.

Griner, 31, has been behind bars in Russia since February after an airport stop for allegedly carrying cannabis-oil-containing vape cartridges, which can result in a maximum of 10 years in prison.

The Phoenix Mercury center and two-time Olympic gold medalist was scheduled to appear in court on May 19.

A Moscow judge on Friday denied the WNBA athlete's request to be placed in home detention.

Earlier this month, the U.S. State Department found that Griner was being detained wrongfully by Russia's government, and said the U.S. government is working to secure her release.
