Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Teachers and school staffers can have breakfast at McDonald's every day next week -- on the house, the company said Friday.

The national chain said it wants to thank U.S. educators with free breakfast at participating locations next Monday through Friday.

McDonald's called the free morning fare "Thank You Meals."

Teachers, school staffers and administrators just need to show a valid work ID at the counter to get the free food.

The chain said it wanted to make a "big national thank you gesture" to show appreciation for educators and other school leaders.

Last year, McDonald's gave out free meals nationwide to millions of healthcare workers, police officers, firefighters and paramedics to thank them for their service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We wanted to build on that idea and thank our educators in our communities for all that they've been doing and what they do really every day," said Jennifer Healan, McDonald's vice president of marketing, according to USA Today.
