Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Police arrested an 18-year-old man who had been on the run after allegedly opening fire at a Dallas-area high school Wednesday, injuring four people, authorities said. The shooting occurred about 9:15 a.m. at Timberview High School in Arlington after a fight between the suspect and another student, Arlington police Assistant Chief Kevin Kolbye said. The school is part of the Mansfield Independent School District.

"This is not a random act of violence," Kolbye said during a news conference. "This is not somebody attacking our schools. ... We believe this was a student who got into a fight."
Three of the injured -- two teens and an adult -- were hospitalized and the fourth, a pregnant adult, was slightly hurt after a fall and was treated at the scene.
A 15-year-old victim was being treated in an intensive care unit after having surgery and another student was expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday after being treated for a possible bullet grazing. A 25-year-old victim was in the hospital in "good condition."
Police identified the shooter as 18-year-old Timothy George Simpkins. Police said he fled from the school after the shooting, prompting a manhunt by local, state and federal authorities.
Officials arrested Simpkins about 1:20 p.m. after he turned himself in to police. He faces three counts of aggravated assault.
Kolbye said investigators weren't sure how the suspect bypassed the school's metal detectors with the gun. Grand Prairie police recovered a .45-caliber handgun at the scene and were running analysis to determine if it was the firearm used in the shooting.
The school was cleared about 11 a.m., according to The Dallas Morning News.
Officials bussed students to the nearby Mansfield ISD Center for the Arts to meet with family. School was canceled Thursday.
In addition to Arlington, Grand Prairie, Mansfield and Mansfield ISD police departments, the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were investigating the shooting.
