Tennessee police ID victim, gunman in grocery store shooting

Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Police on Friday released the identities of the victim killed in a mass shooting at a Tennessee grocery store this week as well as the gunman.

Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane said Olivia King was killed in the shooting Thursday in the southeastern county of Shelby. He declined to speak the name of the shooter during Friday's news conference, but police later confirmed him as UK Thang, 29.

Officials said the gunman was a third-party vendor for the Kroger grocery store, not an employee.

Lane also increased the number of people injured in the shooting from 14 to 15. He declined to reveal a motive for the shooting.

"We all want to know the 'why.' But today, less than 24 hours [later], we're not ready to tell you that," he said.

The Collierville Police Department said it received a report of an active shooter around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The shooter also died of a self-inflected gunshot.
