Bomb threat prompts evacuation of two terminals at Florida airport

July 10 (UPI) -- Flights were grounded and two terminals evacuated at a Florida airport on Saturday after authorities received word of a bomb threat at the hub.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said deputies were notified of a bomb threat at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at 8:49 a.m. Saturday, leading the airport to shut down entry and evacuate Terminals 2 and 3 while authorities searched for explosive devices.

The sheriff's office said the scene was cleared by the BSO bomb squad just before 12:30 p.m. with no explosive devices found. Normal airport operations were then allowed to resume.

"Please be patient as FLL employees restart operations," the airport tweeted after the scene was cleared.

Passengers attempting to reach the airport reported major traffic backups in the area, especially along U.S. 1, following the incident.

The sheriff's office did not reveal the source of the reported bomb threat or whether a suspicious object was involved in the report.
