Washington, D.C., suspends Rudy Giuliani's law license

July 7 (UPI) -- The District of Columbia Court of Appeals on Wednesday suspended Rudy Giuliani from practicing law in Washington, D.C.

The suspension from the appeals court was triggered automatically after he was suspended from practicing law in the state of New York last month.

The court said Giuliani would be suspended from working as an attorney in Washington, D.C., pending the outcome of a full formal disciplinary hearing on the New York suspension.

Bar records showed that Giuliani was an inactive member of the District of Columbia bar in good standing, at the time of Wednesday's suspension.

The New York state appellate court moved to suspend Giuliani's license after concluding he made "demonstrably false and misleading" statements about fraud during the 2020 elections while working as an attorney for former President Donald Trump.

In its ruling, the New York court listed several instances of misconduct and misstatements by Giuliani amid a series of lawsuits in battleground states including Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Nevada and Georgia, filed by Trump after losing the election.

Giuliani argued in response that since the legal matters following the election concluded, he wouldn't be making any statements about the election as an attorney.
