June 21 (UPI) -- A photo recently posted on Instagram shows the daughter of the Dubai ruler -- who hasn't been seen outside Dubai since she was seized in an attempt to flee the country in 2018 -- in Spain.

Former Royal Navy member Sioned Taylor, a Briton based in Dubai, posted the photo on Instagram Sunday of Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum -- daughter of United Arab Emirates Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum -- with her arm around her shoulder at Madrid's airport, The Guardian reported.

"Great European holiday with Latifa," Taylor said in the Instagram post. "We're having fun exploring! (smiley face emoji)."

The photo posted by Taylor does not provide any further visual information to confirm when the photo was taken, The Guardian noted.

It was the first time Latifa has been seen outside Dubai since she was seized at age 35 in a 2018 flee attempt by commandos off the coast of India and returned to Dubai.

Since then, Latifa has been largely missing from public life and accused her father of holding her hostage in video messages released in February in which she said she was being held in "solitary confinement," in a villa "converted into jail."

After the February video footage, the United Nations called for "proof of life." The family responded in a statement that family and medical professionals were caring for her at home, but United Nations spokesperson Marta Hurtado told a briefing in Geneva in April the United Arab Emirates had failed to provide "clear compelling evidence that she is alive."

The Free Latifa campaign released a statement on the latest development.

"We are no doubt joined by tens of thousands around the world that supported Latifa these last three years when we say we are pleased to see Latifa seemingly having a passport, traveling and enjoying an increasing degree of freedom, these are very positive steps forward," David Haigh, co-founder of the Free Latifa campaign and Detained International said in the statement. "I can also confirm that several of the campaign team have been contacted directly by Latifa. We cannot comment further at this stage, save to say that our only goal is to secure the present day and future safety and wellbeing of Latifa."

Taylor had previously posted a photo on Instagram of Latifa in May showing her at Dubai mall, The Guardian previously reported.

Though the post did not include metadata to show the date and time the photograph was taken, a cinema in the background contained advertisement for the film, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, which debuted in the UAE on May 13, The Guardian noted.

"We confirm that there have been several potentially significant and positive developments in the campaign," Haigh said in statement after the mall photograph was released in May.
