June 12 (UPI) -- Nine people sustained injuries and one person died after a mass shooting at a Savannah, Ga., apartment complex, police said.
The shooting took place around 9 p.m. Friday near the Fred Wessels Home apartments.
The Savannah Police Department said one person died and multiple people had critical injuries. Among those with non-life-threatening injuries were a 2-year-old and 13-year-old.
Police said they were searching for a suspect or suspects, but haven't released any identifying information about a potential gunman.
Mayor Van Johnson called for the public to help with information leading to an arrest.
"Last evening, #Savannah, like so many other cities in the nation has been victimized by a mass shooting," he tweeted.
The shooting came just hours before a gunman opened fire on Austin, Texas,' 6th Street, which injured 13 people.
