June 5 (UPI) -- More than 150 earthquakes were recorded in Southern California Saturday, with the largest having a magnitude of 5.3. Most of the quakes, including the 5.3 one, struck near Calipatria, a town of about 7,710 in Imperial County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

No injuries or major damage were immediately reported.
The USGS Twitter account also reported that the earthquake was part of a swarm of quakes that hit the Calipatria area Saturday, with other, lower-magnitude earthquakes continuing through early afternoon.
The Salton Sea is a saline lake created for irrigation in 1905. It sits directly on the San Andreas Fault.
Seismologist Paul Caruso told CNN the area has been known to have earthquake swarms in the past.
