May 24 (UPI) -- The pilot of an aircraft that departed from Nevada's Nellis Air Force Base died on Monday after it crashed in a Las Vegas neighborhood, military officials said.

A statement from the base said the plane, operated and piloted by Florida-based Draken U.S., crashed at the southern edge of the base at about 2:30 p.m.

"Draken has received news of a downed aircraft out of Nellis AFB and the tragic loss of one of our pilots," Draken U.S. said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people and families affected by this event. We are doing everything in our power to assist them in this time of need and we are working closely with federal, state and local authorities."

Multiple federal and local first responders were deployed to the scene.

No other personnel were onboard at the time of the crash and Draken U.S. said it is cooperating with investigating agencies, including the National Transportation Safety Board.

The crash was reported in a neighborhood where homeowner Jose Villanueva told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the plane came down between his home and the property next door, belonging to his uncle.
