Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Rapper and Atlanta-area native Silento has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of his cousin last month, authorities said.

The artist, whose real name is Ricky Lamar Hawk, was arrested and booked on Monday.

His detention came after police investigated a deadly shooting in the city on Jan. 21 that killed his cousin Frederick Rooks in the Panthersville area, just a few miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.

According to jail records, Silento was ordered held without bond.

Police records say that officers gathered evidence from security camera videos in the area, one of which showed gunfire and several vehicles fleeing the scene.

Detectives have not yet detailed a motive for the shooting.

A native of Stone Mountain, Ga., Silento rose to prominence when his debut single, "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)," led to a viral dance in 2015.

He was arrested in California last year on unrelated domestic violence and gun charges.
