T. Rex Forever stamps to be issued Aug. 29

Aug. 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Postal Service announced it will be issuing Tyrannosaurus rex Forever stamps later this month.

The collection of four Tyrannosaurus rex stamps will be issued during a dedication ceremony Aug. 29 at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., the postal service in a press release Monday.

Originally scheduled for release on June 28, the date was pushed back in May due to a scheduling conflict.

The four distinct stamps depict the long-extinct beast in various forms of its life from a hatchling to a skeleton in a museum.

In two of the stamps, the young adult depicted in skeletal form with a young Triceratops and in the flesh emerging through a forest clearing is the "Nation's T. Rex," whose remains were discovered on federal land in Montana and is considered one of the most important specimens of the species ever found, it said.

The four stamps were designed by art director Greg Breeding from original artwork by scientist and paleoartist Julius T. Csotonyi.

As Forever stamps, the stamps will maintain the value of a current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price, the post office said.
