Jan. 23 (UPI) -- More stories of the shooting attack at a Parkland, Fla., high school a year ago came to light this week in a new book written by some of the survivors.

The book Parkland Speaks: Survivors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas Share Their Stories includes poems, photographs and artwork. It was released Tuesday.

The book was written by 43 students and teachers who were there when a gunman killed 17 people on Feb. 14, 2018. It provides a "raw look" at the attack and a "poignant representation" of the event, the book's publisher said.

The written accounts also describe frantic phone calls and text messages, as well as stories of hiding from the gunman. There are also photos of protests and marches led by MSD students after the shooting.

The book was edited by yearbook teacher Sarah Lerner, who said she remembers hiding until SWAT officers arrived.

"I lost my sense of innocence," she said. "I lost my sense of security. I lost my ability to see the world as I had only hours earlier. I would give anything to go back."
