Doctors found the nodules on her left lung after Ginsburg took a fall last month. They were removed Friday. The cancer did not spread to other parts of her body and no additional treatment was required.
The 85-year-old Ginsburg has survived cancer three times and was already up and working following the surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She had colorectal cancer in 1999 and pancreatic cancer in 2009.
Ginsburg has been on the Supreme Court for 25 years and said she plans to continue doing the job for as long as she's able.
Her release from the hospital coincided with the Christmas Day release of a new film called "On the Basis of Sex," which shows her work as a young lawyer on groundbreaking gender discrimination cases.
The Supreme Court resumes on Jan. 4.
