Dec. 10 (UPI) -- The Fearless Girl statue returned to the streets of Manhattan on Monday -- to a new home outside the New York Stock Exchange.

The four-foot bronze statue of a girl standing tall with her chin up had faced the iconic Charging Bull statue in Bowling Green Park in March 2017 in celebration of International Women's Day.

Fearless Girl, which was installed by the financial firm State Street Global Advisors, was supposed to have only stayed for a few days but the city decided to keep the statue there because of its popularity.

There it stood for more than a year. Then Charging Bull creator Arturo Di Modica claimed that the girl took his artwork out of context, tarnishing bull's positive message. The city decided to move Fearless Girl, created by artist Kristen Visbal, to the new location, citing crowding concerns.

"Since Fearless Girl's placement, more than 150 companies have added a female director to their boards," Cyrus Taraporevala, State Street's president and chief executive officer, said in April.

"Our hope is that by moving her closer to the NYSE she will encourage more companies to take action and, more broadly, that she will continue to inspire people from all walks of life on the issue of gender diversity," he said.

A plaque was installed at the Wall Street location where Fearless Girl once stood.

Visbal had told CNN Business that it took six hours to initially install the statue. It weighs about 300 pounds.
