Dec. 8 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump announced he will nominate Gen. Mark Milley to replace Gen. Joseph Dunford as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Trump named Milley as his nominee for the position Saturday morning on Twitter.

"I am pleased to announce my nomination of four-star General Mark Milley, Chief of Staff of the United States Army - as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff," Trump tweeted.
Milley will replace Dunford, of the Marine Corps, who also served under the Obama administration. Dunford is scheduled to complete his term next fall.
"I am thankful to both of these incredible men for their service to our Country! Date of transition to be determined," Trump added in another tweet.
Milley is a Princeton and Columbia graduate, who has served as a Green Beret on an elite team in the Army and was deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The position requires Senate confirmation.
