Dec. 2 (UPI) -- More than a dozen tornadoes struck the state of Illinois, injuring at least 30 people and damaging hundreds of cars and structures.
The National Weather Service received reports of 22 tornadoes, all in central Illinois on Saturday, while offices in Lincoln, Ill., and St. Louis, began to conduct storm surveys on Sunday to confirm their track and intensity.
At least 30 people sustained injuries in Christian County, Ill., and officials said 21 people were taken to Taylorville Memorial Hospital, including one who was considered in critical condition.
No deaths were reported.
Taylorville's assistant fire chief, Andy Goodall, estimated that more than 100 homes were damaged, while Country Classic Cars Dealership owner Russel Noel said about 200 vehicles were damaged by the tornadoes.
Officials also said a truck carrying chemicals was overturned and a hazmat crew was working to clean it up.
Crews began conducting further damage assessment on Sunday morning.
