One of three inmate escapees in Illinois found

By

June 17 (UPI) -- Three inmates escaped from a jail in southeastern Illinois and several hours later one of them was recaptured, authorities said.

The jail-break happened around 3 a.m. Saturday from the White County jail in Carmi, Ill., near the Indiana border, officials said. White County Sheriff Doug Maier said that a pipe was used to break a hole in the outside concrete block and brick wall.

The jail escape wasn't discovered until around 5:30 a.m. although outside surveillance video showed the inmates running on foot down an alleyway at 3:05 a.m.

At 7:34 p.m., the sheriff's office reported investigators caught Justin Bray, 28, walking along a road in a rural location east of Crossville, the White County Sheriff's Office said. After he fled on foot, Bray was found in an oil tank field.

Bray was awaiting trial on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, resisting or obstructing a peace officer and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude.

A manhunt also is underway for three inmates who escaped Friday morning from a jail in New Mexico with the help of a guard, the Curry County Sheriff's Office said.
